Diplomacy generally refers to the practice of conducting negotiations regarding, but not limited to, peace-making.

I have an mutt friend in Sheridan, Wyoming, fairly young but beyond his years in scars.  His left ear is missing and his tail is kinked near the end as a result of an improperly treated injury. He’s blind in one eye, having tried to dodge a projectile of some sort, and he walks with a distinct limp because his right leg was nearly ripped off and the stainless steel pin placed inside that leg, by the Vet, is slightly misaligned.

He goes by the name of Lucky.

Lucky thinks that he is a diplomat.  Whether that’s true or not, he is a smart (not street smart) good natured dog who believes that he can make friends with any animal, any time, any place.  That belief is genuine but at the same time, naïve.   Lucky feels that with the right attitude and good will, though history has often proven otherwise , his intelligent persistence will prevail and all objects of his diplomatic efforts will eventually roll over and expose their tummies.

Lucky recently approached a known and violent mutt hater.  He was a Poong-San Gae dog; a real nasty boy.  Lucky was barely inside the Poong’s dynasty when the Poong launched a projectile and caught Lucky right in the eye.  Smarted.  Lucky has nearly recovered from that ill will but no longer sees anything on that side of his head; not really a debilitating setback.  He has another perfectly good eye.

Lucky’s other injuries, the crooked tail, the missing ear and the hobbled leg all came by way of ambush from a wiley Mucuchies, a cagey little inbred with a bad attitude.  The Mucuchies put Lucky on his back before you could say ‘Sit’ or ‘Go’!!!  The carefully planned  assault left Lucky with multiple contusions and as he drug his mangled leg away, he looked back for his ear but the Mucuchies had already swallowed.

Lucky has now identified a new challenge; a very large Persian Cat, perfect for a little of the Lucky Dog diplomacy.  Do you feel lucky, Lucky?

I don’t.  Show the kitty some teeth.
